Physical fitness is only one part of readiness. Sleep, nutrition, recovery, and stress management also help Marines and their families stay healthy, manage challenges, and build resilience.

Readiness Happens Beyond the Gym

Working out builds strength and endurance, but everyday habits also affect how you feel and perform. Whether preparing for a demanding mission or managing the responsibilities of military life, taking care of your health outside the gym matters.

Here are three ways to support your readiness:

  • Make sleep and recovery a priority. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule when possible. Give your body time to recover between workouts and pay attention to ongoing fatigue or injuries.

  • Fuel your body. Drink water throughout the day and choose balanced meals that provide the energy and nutrients your body needs.

  • Manage daily stress. Make time for activities that help you reset, such as walking outdoors, practicing deep breathing, or taking a break from screens.

Small, consistent habits can support physical health, improve focus, and help you manage everyday challenges.

Three Steps to Build Readiness at Home

1. Create a sleep routine. Keep a consistent bedtime and wake-up time when your schedule allows. Make your bedroom comfortable, quiet, and dark to support better sleep.

2. Plan meals and hydration. Keep water available throughout the day and plan balanced meals that fit your schedule, budget, and activity level.

3. Make time to reset. Take a short walk, practice slow breathing, or step away from daily distractions. Find a routine that helps you manage stress and recharge.
