8:30 AM - 12:30 PMCreate a unique piece of Japanese art at this hands-on Tenkoku & Washi Lantern Workshop! Learn about tenkoku, the traditional Japanese art of engraving stamp seals using Ten-sho style characters, and create your own personalized seal.
An instructor will select a one-kanji character suited to your name and design your stamp seal. You'll then have the opportunity to use your new seal to decorate a Washi paper lantern. The lanterns will feature special sakura-colored Washi paper in honor of local novelist Chiyo Uno, whose favorite color was sakura pink.
Your completed lantern can also be displayed at the Kintai Bridge Art Festival on November 7, giving you the opportunity to share your creation with the community.
Fees:
Tenkoku stamp seal: ¥3,500
Washi Lantern: ¥2,000
Stamp seal ink (optional): ¥3,300
Payments will be made on-site on the day of the event, so be sure to bring yen cash.
