Self-advocacy in Health Care When Things Don’t Feel Right
When it comes to making informed health care decisions, seeking a second opinion can be an important step in ensuring you’re on the right path.
As a TRICARE beneficiary, second opinions are covered, though the process can vary depending on your specific plan. In some cases, you may need a referral from your primary care manager (PCM), while other plans offer more flexibility.
Let’s explore how TRICARE handles second opinions and what you need to know to take advantage of this benefit.
Does TRICARE Cover 2nd Opinions?
The short answer, yes! If you are enrolled in one of the plans below, you must ask your PCM for a referral to get a second opinion. If you're an active duty service member, you must also ask your PCM for a referral.
